  • Old Ottawa East is not close to many shopping options. Within walking distance is Bank and Elgin street with some small, locally owned businesses. Down the road in Byward Market is the Rideau Centre. Either direction on the highway is the St. Laurent Shopping Centre and Bayshore Shopping Centre.

  • In Old Ottawa East there are a few historical landmarks.

First and foremost is the canal, which is a piece of Ottawa’s history.

Second is the Slattery Pasture Airfield. This was once a cow field, and later became the sight of the first flight in Ottawa.

Finally is the Aberdeen Pavillion, just across the canal at Lansdowne. This historic building hosts a variety of events throughout the year!

  • Old Ottawa East has access to grocery stores around the area, including a FreshCo, Metro, Independent, and plenty of locally owned specialty grocery stores.

  • Old Ottawa East does not have any night life. However, within walking distance is Bank and Elgin street, both of which have plenty of bars, pubs, and clubs. A short drive away is the Byward Market, which usually caters to a younger crowd, but has plenty of places for dancing the night away or having a quiet drink with friends. You may also enjoy a night out at some of the classier establishments at Lansdowne!

  • Old Ottawa East is not a restaurant hot spot, but it is close to some. Check out Bank or Elgin street, Lansdowne, or head into the Byward Market for some amazing dining options.

  • Old Ottawa East is best known for its traditional single-family red brick homes. But there are new builds on the rise in the area, with the Greystone Village creating many large grey and glass buildings of luxury condominiums.

  • There are plenty of parks in the Old Ottawa East area, especially along the Rideau River and Canal.

In the immediate area, check out Rideay River Trail park, Brantwood park (with a pool, playground, and trail!), and Brighton Beach Park. Just across the canal are more great options including Lionel Britton Park, Firehall Park, Sylvia Holden Park, Olympic Garden, and Lansdowne Park.
