Welcome to Vanier, a close-to downtown neighbourhood with an emphasis on French.

Vanier is right over the water from Sandy Hill and Lowertown, and features plenty of old and new homes, an emphasis on speaking French (including plenty of French-named streets), and a bunch of new growth coming to the area. Vanier used to be known as a cheaper place to live, but new homes are popping up all over, raising the value of the surrounding homes and elevating the neighbourhood!

  • Vanier is becoming gentrified over the years as it is known as a cheaper place to live with an ideal location right beside downtown Ottawa, Byward Market, Sandy Hill, University of Ottawa, as well as plenty of shopping. More and more young families are moving into the area and developers are currently purchasing older buildings to build apartments and townhomes.

  • Vanier has the largest franco-Ontarian population in Ontario and is one of the only ridings to have only voted liberal in all elections. The average family income in this area is around $92,000 and the median household income is around $45,000.
